What Compensation May Be Available After a Bicycle Crash in Dover, MA?

A cyclist injured after being struck by a vehicle may be able to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and other losses when another party may be legally responsible.

Medical treatment is often one of the first expenses to document. Emergency care, diagnostic testing, medications, follow-up visits, and rehabilitation can all add to the cost of recovery. Keeping medical records, bills, and other treatment documents can help establish these expenses.

Those medical needs may also affect a person's daily activities and ability to work. Missed work or reduced hours can result in lost income, while transportation expenses and other out-of-pocket costs may add to the financial effects. Employment records, pay statements, and documentation of missed work can help show these losses.

Along with documenting the resulting losses, evidence from the crash can help clarify what happened. Photographs of the bicycle, vehicle, roadway, traffic signs, and visible injuries may preserve useful information. Witness accounts and available video footage can provide additional documentation.

With the losses and circumstances documented, insurance coverage should also be reviewed. Depending on the circumstances, more than one insurance policy may be relevant. Policy documents, claim correspondence, medical records, and expense records can help clarify what coverage may apply.

A bicycle accident lawyer can then review the available evidence, medical records, insurance information, and financial losses to explain what legal options may be available and what additional documentation may be relevant to a potential claim.
