What Evidence To Collect After a Crash in Massachusetts
After a motor vehicle crash in Massachusetts, gathering and preserving evidence can play an important role in documenting what happened and supporting any insurance claim or legal action. Acting promptly can help ensure that key details are not lost over time.
One of the most important steps is to take photographs and videos of the scene, including vehicle damage, road conditions, traffic signs, skid marks, debris, and the surrounding environment. Visual documentation can help establish how the crash occurred and the severity of the impact.
It is also important to obtain contact information from any witnesses who saw the collision. Their accounts may provide additional perspectives that help clarify the sequence of events. In addition, requesting a copy of the official police report can provide valuable information, as responding officers often include observations, diagrams, and preliminary assessments.
Medical documentation should be preserved as well, including records of emergency treatment, follow-up care, diagnoses, and any related expenses. These records can help demonstrate the extent of injuries and the impact of the crash on a person’s health. Drivers involved in the collision should also exchange insurance and contact details to ensure proper communication between parties.
If available, dashcam footage or surveillance video from nearby businesses or traffic cameras can further support a claim by providing an objective view of the incident. Writing down a personal account of the crash as soon as possible can also be helpful, including details such as the time, location, weather conditions, and anything that occurred before and after the collision.
Collecting and preserving this type of evidence can help establish the facts of the case and support any future claims. Consulting with a qualified car accident attorney
