What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Accident in Massachusetts
After a multi-vehicle accident in Massachusetts, the priority should always be safety and medical care. Anyone involved should check for injuries and call 911 so emergency responders can assist. Even if injuries appear minor, it is important to be evaluated, as symptoms such as head trauma or internal injuries may not be immediately noticeable.
Once first responders arrive, police will typically document the crash and create an official report. In multi-vehicle accidents, officers may gather statements from multiple drivers and witnesses to determine how the collision occurred. These reports often play a key role in insurance claims. If it is safe, drivers should exchange insurance and contact information with all parties involved. Taking photos of vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and the positions of vehicles can also help document the scene.
Massachusetts follows a no-fault insurance system, meaning drivers may rely on their own insurance coverage for certain medical expenses and lost wages. However, determining fault can still be important in crashes involving multiple vehicles, especially when injuries are serious or damages are extensive.
Because multi-vehicle accidents can involve several parties and insurance companies, the claims process may become complex. Some individuals choose to speak with a lawyer to better understand their rights, how liability may be determined, and what steps may help protect their interests after a crash.
Speaking with a personal injury accident lawyer
