Child Hurt in Scooter Crash on Talbot Ave in Mattapan, MA

August 14, 2026

Boston, MA (August 14, 2026) – A child riding a scooter was injured early Thursday morning, August 13, in a crash that involved a motor vehicle in the Mattapan neighborhood.

Boston Police responded around 5:45 a.m. to the area of Talbot Avenue and Norwell Street after a vehicle struck the child, who then hit a parked car. The driver remained on scene following the wreck.

The child was taken to a local hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, though the full extent was not confirmed.

Boston Police continue to look into what led up to the collision.

We're glad to hear the young boy is expected to be okay and wish him a speedy recovery.

How Does Massachusetts Law Protect an Injured Child's Legal Claim in Boston, MA?

Massachusetts law generally pauses, or "tolls," the statute of limitations for a minor's personal injury claim until the child turns 18, at which point the standard three-year filing window begins.

Children involved in scooter or bicycle collisions can suffer fractures, head injuries, or soft tissue damage that requires ongoing pediatric evaluation, even when initial injuries appear minor. Follow-up care is necessary to rule out complications that aren't obvious right away.

A parent or legal guardian typically has to bring a claim on a child's behalf, and any settlement reached usually requires court approval to make sure it adequately accounts for the child's future medical needs.

These cases typically involve extra procedural steps, and a personal injury lawyer in Massachusetts can help guide a family through the court approval process while working to document the full scope of the child's injuries and recovery.
