Salem, MA (August 16, 2026) – Eight individuals have been displaced from their home following a structural fire on Putnam Street on Saturday evening, August 15. Dozens of firefighters from the Salem Fire Department and nearby communities responded to the scene shortly before 7:00 p.m.
Neighboring residents assisted by calling emergency dispatchers when smoke was first observed coming from the property. Emergency medical personnel evaluated residents at the scene, and no life-threatening injuries were immediately reported by responding officials.
The American Red Cross is currently assisting the eight displaced residents with temporary housing, emergency supplies, and recovery resources.
Local fire investigators are actively examining the building to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
