Medway, MA (September 9, 2026) – An 83-year-old bicyclist died Tuesday evening, September 8, after a vehicle struck him while he was riding on Milford Street near Green Street in Medway.
According to the Medway Police Department, the wreck happened at approximately 7:50 p.m., when a vehicle traveling eastbound on Milford Street struck the cyclist and continued down the road. The driver stopped nearby and was present and cooperative when officers arrived.
Emergency units treated the cyclist before he was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. He has been identified as an 83-year-old man of West Roxbury.
Our condolences go out to the cyclist's family and his loved ones.
Massachusetts law requires drivers to give bicyclists at least three feet of clearance when passing and to yield to them at intersections and driveways just as they would to another vehicle.
Fatal bicycle collisions like this one tend to trace back to questions about the driver's speed, following distance, and attentiveness in low-light conditions. All these factors usually become central to determining what happened and who bears responsibility.
Under Massachusetts's wrongful death statute, a personal representative can bring a claim on behalf of a deceased person's family, seeking damages that may include lost income, funeral costs, and the loss of companionship.
Physical evidence and witness accounts gathered in the hours after a crash heavily shape how a claim is built, and a wrongful death lawyer in Massachusetts can be essential. A lawyer can begin by requesting police records and any available footage early to prevent that evidence from being lost or harder to obtain later.
