In Massachusetts, drivers involved in a collision can typically request a copy of the police report from the department that responded, which in Dudley is usually handled through the town's police records division. Reports are usually not available immediately, since officers need time to complete their paperwork and file it with the department.
Most Massachusetts police departments make reports available within about five to ten business days after a crash, though timing can vary depending on how complex the report is. To request a report, you generally need basic information such as the date, location, and names of those involved, and some departments charge a small fee to cover the cost of copies.
Drivers across Dudley sometimes need to request reports from more than one agency if a crash occurred near a town border or involved a state road. Massachusetts State Police handle certain highway crashes, while others fall under local departments, so confirming the correct agency can save time.
A car accident lawyer can help identify the right department to contact and follow up if a report is delayed.
