September 1, 2026

Cambridge, MA (September 1, 2026) – Four people were hurt on Monday morning, August 31, when a vehicle struck a utility pole near Route 2 and Alewife Brook Parkway in Cambridge.

Cambridge Police, Massachusetts State Police, and fire and emergency units were called to the intersection around 1:30 a.m. to assist those involved and manage traffic at the scene.

All four occupants were able to get out of the vehicle on their own, and no one needed to be extricated.

Two of the injured were taken to the hospital in more serious condition, while the other two were taken with less severe injuries.

The wreck remains under investigation.

We wish all four a full and speedy recovery.

How Medical Bills Get Paid for Injured Passengers in Cambridge, MA

A common doubt that comes up after a passenger is injured in a car accident is who will pay for their medical bills. First, it is important to understand that Massachusetts requires every driver to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage. This coverage can pay up to $8,000 in reasonable medical expenses for a policyholder and any passengers, regardless of who caused the accident, which can serve as the first source of payment for injured passengers.

However, PIP benefits can be exhausted well before the injury treatment is complete. Passengers who are hospitalized can face ambulance fees, emergency room bills, diagnostic imaging, and follow-up treatment that quickly add up. Once PIP limits are reached, passengers may need to rely on personal health insurance or pursue a claim against the at-fault driver.

There are several sources of coverage for injured passengers, such as MedPay if the vehicle's policy includes it, personal health insurance, and the at-fault driver's liability insurance once PIP benefits run out. A car accident lawyer can help injured passengers identify every available source of coverage to make sure they are not left dealing with the medical bills out of pocket.
