Garbage Truck Collides With Car, Closes I-91 in W Springfield, MA

West Springfield, MA (August 7, 2026) – A trash truck and a car collided on Thursday evening, August 6, on I-91 northbound in West Springfield, resulting in serious injuries. The crash closed the highway near Exit 10A, according to initial reports.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation and emergency units treated those hurt at the scene. The extent of the injuries has not been detailed.

The northbound side of I-91 remained shut down through the evening commute before all lanes reopened by 8 p.m. Drivers were urged to seek alternate routes while crews worked at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
