September 11, 2026

Avon, MA (September 11, 2026) – A man was injured on Thursday afternoon, September 10, after a fire broke out inside a garage on Old South Street in Avon.

Avon Fire rushed to the scene at around 12:10 p.m. at 551 Old South Street following a 911 call reporting flames and an injured resident. Emergency units found the man after another person helped him out of the burning garage.

The injured man received medical treatment before being taken to a hospital in Brockton. He was later flown to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The fire was relatively small and had mostly burned itself out by the time crews arrived, requiring limited extinguishing efforts.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

We hope the injured man makes a steady recovery.

How Fire Code Violations Can Affect Injury Claims in Avon, MA

Massachusetts law allows safety rules and regulations to be considered as evidence of the level of care required in a civil case. A violation does not automatically establish negligence, but it may be relevant when the rule was designed to prevent the type of harm involved.

For a person injured in a residential fire, records that involve smoke alarms, electrical systems, heating equipment, garage conditions, inspections, and previous repair requests may become relevant. The value of each record depends on the facts and whether it helps establish that a property owner or another responsible party failed to take reasonable precautions.

Massachusetts premises-liability law generally places a duty of reasonable care on the owner or person controlling real estate toward people lawfully on the property. That duty can include taking reasonable steps to prevent foreseeable injuries and warning about known dangers.

Determining whether a fire-code issue supports a civil claim requires the review of the specific rule, the property's condition, and the connection between the alleged violation and the injury.

A personal injury attorney can examine inspection records, maintenance documents, photographs, witness accounts, and other evidence before determining whether negligence can be established.
