Morning Crash Sparks Fuel Spill on I-95 in Attleboro, MA

September 25, 2026

Attleboro, MA (September 25, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision involving a dump truck and three other vehicles led to a fuel spill on I-95 Thursday morning, September 24. The Attleboro Fire Department responded to the highway near Mile Marker 2 around 8:19 a.m.

State police said the dump truck leaked fuel following the crash, and a large amount of it reached a nearby storm drain before crews built a dam to stop further contamination.

Fire crews evaluated everyone involved. One person was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, and no further injuries were reported.

State police continue to investigate the wreck.

We hope for a full recovery of everyone involved.

How Fault Gets Divided in Multi-Vehicle Cases in Attleboro, MA

When four vehicles are involved, figuring out who's responsible is rarely simple. Massachusetts follows a modified comparative negligence rule, which allows an injured person to recover damages as long as they were 50% or less at fault.

However, fault doesn't have to fall on just one driver. It can be divided among several parties, including a trucking company if a commercial vehicle played a role.

That split matters even more when a spill is involved. If a dump truck's cargo or fuel system contributed to what happened, the trucking company may face separate scrutiny over vehicle maintenance, loading procedures, or compliance with state and federal safety rules. A driver further back in a pileup may also share some responsibility if following distance or speed contributed to the chain reaction.

In a multi-vehicle accident, insurers for each driver usually try to shift blame toward someone else, which can leave an injured person caught in the middle while companies negotiate among themselves. A car accident lawyer can help sort out how fault should actually be divided and make sure a client isn't unfairly blamed for another driver's mistake.

If you were hurt in a multi-vehicle case that involved a commercial truck, our team at Fiorentino Legal, P.C. can help you sort out who's responsible. We can explain how Massachusetts' comparative negligence rule may apply to your specific case.
