Somerville, MA (August 22, 2026) – On Friday evening, August 21, emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle highway collision involving a motorcycle on Interstate 93 North, near the Somerville off-ramp.
Paramedics and advanced life support (ALS) teams provided immediate emergency medical care to the injured motorcyclist on the scene. Responders also assessed the occupants of the remaining passenger cars on the scene.
Massachusetts State Police troopers are continuing to investigate the causes of the wreck.
Our thoughts remain with the injured motorcyclist as they recover.
After a motorcycle accident in Massachusetts, injured victims can recover financial compensation for economic damages like medical bills and lost wages, as well as non-economic damages for physical pain and suffering, by filing a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver. Recovering these damages requires demonstrating driver negligence and documenting the full physical and financial impact of your injuries.
Economic damages compensate for direct, measurable financial losses resulting from the collision. These include emergency medical response fees, hospital stays, surgical care, physical rehabilitation, ongoing treatment, lost wages from missed work shifts, and reduced future earning capacity if injuries cause lasting disability.
Additionally, economic recovery includes vehicle or motorcycle repair costs, protective gear replacement, and out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Non-economic damages address the intangible, life-altering impacts of an accident. Under Massachusetts law, injured victims can pursue non-economic compensation for physical pain, emotional distress, mental anguish, permanent disfigurement, and loss of enjoyment of life.
Note that while standard auto passengers must meet a $2,000 medical bill threshold or specific injury criteria to pursue pain and suffering, injured motorcyclists are exempt from PIP limits and can seek non-economic recovery directly through a liability claim.
