Lakeville, MA (September 8, 2026) – On Monday evening, September 7, a motorcycle and an SUV collided on Bedford Street, seriously hurting both drivers. The Lakeville Police said the accident happened just before 6:30 p.m. and closed Route 18 between Interstate 495 and Route 79 while the roadway was cleared.
Both people involved, one riding a Yamaha motorcycle and the other driving a Honda SUV, were taken to Morton Hospital with serious injuries. Their current conditions have not been released.
It remains under review what led to both vehicles to collide.
We hope both drivers make a full and steady recovery.
Motorcycle cases that involve an SUV or another passenger vehicle typically come down to a single question: which driver failed to see the other in time to avoid a collision.
Massachusetts law holds all drivers to the same duty of care regardless of what they're operating, but motorcyclists are frequently unfairly assumed to be at fault simply because of the size difference between the vehicles involved.
Motorcycles offer little protection compared to a passenger vehicle, so consequently, these kinds of accidents tend to be more severe for the rider. Riders may face injuries such as broken bones, road rash, and internal injuries that can require extended hospital stays.
Massachusetts follows a modified comparative negligence rule, in which an injured person can still recover damages as long as they're found 50 percent or less at fault for what happened.
A common practice for insurers is to bias against motorcyclists rather than the actual facts. Therefore, many riders benefit from the guidance of a motorcycle accident lawyer that can help gather the police report, any traffic camera footage, and mechanical inspection results to build an accurate picture of how the collision occurred.
