New Bedford Motorcyclist Killed in Raynham, MA, Identified as Scott Piché

June 7, 2026

Raynham, MA (June 7, 2026) – The motorcyclist killed in a crash with an SUV in Raynham has been identified as Scott B. Piché, 52, of New Bedford. The collision occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at the intersection of South Street East and Hill Street.

As reported, Piché was on his way to work at DePuy Johnson & Johnson in Raynham when the crash occurred. A preliminary investigation determined that a 2010 Ford Explorer operated by a 22-year-old Avon man collided with Piché's 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle as he was traveling straight through the intersection.

The crash remains under investigation by the Raynham Police and the Massachusetts State Police.

We extend our deepest condolences to Scott Piché's family, friends, and colleagues who knew and loved him.

Can a Family Seek Compensation After a Fatal Commute Crash in Raynham, MA?

Yes, a family can seek compensation after a fatal crash that occurs during a commute, and the fact that the victim was traveling to work at the time of the collision may open additional legal avenues worth exploring.

Under Massachusetts law, surviving family members may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim when a loved one is killed due to another party's negligence, and that process can move forward independently of any ongoing criminal or traffic investigation. It may be useful to consult an attorney as early as possible to help ensure that no critical deadlines are missed and that all available legal options are identified from the outset.

When a worker is killed while commuting, questions arise that extend beyond a standard wrongful death claim. In some cases, depending on the nature of the employment relationship and whether the commute involved any work-related component, additional avenues such as workers' compensation may be worth exploring alongside a civil claim.

While commuting to a fixed workplace is generally not covered under workers' compensation in Massachusetts, the specific facts of an individual situation can affect that analysis, and an attorney can help families understand whether any employment-related benefits may apply in their particular case.

On the civil wrongful death side, the losses that may be recoverable under Massachusetts law can be significant. Funeral and burial costs, the long-term loss of the deceased's income and earning capacity, and the lasting absence of a loved one's support and companionship are among the damages that surviving family members may be able to pursue.

When a collision reconstruction investigation is conducted alongside a standard police inquiry, the findings of that investigation, including how the crash occurred and which party may bear responsibility, can also be central to a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death attorney may be able to help families preserve that evidence, navigate the legal process, and ensure that any resolution reached reflects the full scope of their loss.
