Bellingham, MA (August 29, 2026) – The Bellingham Police Department officers, emergency medical personnel, and fire crews responded on Saturday morning, August 29, to a severe vehicle collision on Farm Street.
First responders arrived before 9:30 a.m. after reports of a two-vehicle crash involving parked commercial equipment. Investigators determined a truck traveling along Farm Street struck a parked landscape truck and attached trailer.
The force of the impact threw off an employee of the landscaping business operating a lawnmower on the trailer. Due to the severity of the injuries sustained, emergency personnel requested a medical helicopter to airlift the worker to a regional hospital.
The Bellingham Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash.
We wish a full and swift recovery for the injured worker.
Sustaining severe injuries while working on or near a roadway gives victims specific legal pathways under Massachusetts law to secure financial compensation for medical costs, lost income, and physical recovery.
When a roadside worker is injured on the job by an approaching vehicle, financial recovery typically involves navigating both workers' compensation benefits and third-party personal injury claims.
Under Massachusetts Workers' Compensation Law, an employee injured in the scope of employment is entitled to no-fault medical coverage and partial wage replacement through their employer's insurance carrier. Because these benefits are provided regardless of fault, workers can receive rapid assistance for medical bills without having to prove negligence.
However, workers' compensation benefits do not cover non-economic losses such as physical pain, suffering, or full wage loss. To recover these complete damages, an injured worker can file a separate third-party personal injury claim against the negligent driver who struck the equipment.
Establishing driver fault requires demonstrating negligence, such as distracted driving, failure to maintain a lane, speeding, or failing to yield to stationary vehicles.
In Massachusetts, personal injury claims against negligent third parties are evaluated under a modified comparative fault rule, which permits financial recovery as long as the victim's share of fault is 50 percent or less. Additionally, personal injury lawsuits must be filed within a strict three-year statute of limitations from the date of the incident.
