Determining who's at fault at a busy intersection commonly comes down to right-of-way rules, and Massachusetts law generally requires a driver entering or crossing a road to yield to traffic already established in the intersection.
Injuries from intersection crashes can include whiplash, fractures, and head injuries, particularly when one vehicle is struck broadside. The seriousness of these injuries isn't always apparent right away, which is one reason prompt medical evaluation matters even when someone feels only mildly hurt at the scene.
Massachusetts follows a modified comparative negligence rule, in which an injured driver can still recover damages as long as they're found to be 50% or less at fault, though their compensation is reduced by their share of responsibility.
Sorting out that percentage typically depends on physical evidence, traffic patterns, and witness accounts from the scene, and a car accident lawyer can help track down camera footage or other records before they're lost or overwritten.
