Easthampton, MA (October 3, 2026) – A 21-year-old woman passenger was killed early Friday, October 2, after the vehicle she was riding in crashed on Park Street in Easthampton.
The crash happened around 1:15 a.m. as the vehicle traveled along Park St. The vehicle hit a guardrail before coming to a stop in a backyard near South Street, according to the preliminary investigation.
The driver and the other passenger were taken to Baystate Medical Center for evaluation and treatment. The second passenger, a 21-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
Our thoughts are with the woman's family and loved ones.
A passenger's family may have legal options after a fatal crash if another party's actions contributed to the death. Because passengers generally do not control how a vehicle is operated, the circumstances of the crash and the available insurance coverage can be important when evaluating a potential claim.
Evidence from the roadway and vehicle may help establish what happened. Crash reports, photographs, guardrail damage, vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and other physical evidence can provide information about the sequence leading to the crash.
The driver's actions may also be relevant. Investigators may examine factors such as speed, roadway position, and other circumstances before the vehicle left the road. Witness accounts or available surveillance and dashcam footage could provide additional information.
Insurance coverage should also be reviewed. A claim may potentially involve the driver's liability policy, depending on the circumstances and applicable coverage. Other insurance policies could also become relevant based on the facts of the case.
Families should preserve records connected to the death. Funeral expenses, medical costs incurred before death, financial records, and other documentation may help establish losses associated with the person's death.
Communications with insurance companies should also be kept. Claim forms, letters, emails, and other records can help document the claims process and the coverage being considered.
A wrongful death lawyer can review the crash evidence, insurance information, and financial losses to explain whether a legal claim may be available. An attorney can also help the family understand the steps involved in pursuing a claim.
