Hyannis, MA (September 30, 2026) – A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at Old Colony and Main Street in Hyannis on Tuesday evening, September 29.
Hyannis Fire and first responders were dispatched to the intersection, and additional emergency units from Yarmouth Fire were sent to help.
When they arrived at the scene, they found the pedestrian injured. The person was taken to Cape Cod Healthcare for further treatment of the injuries.
The investigation into how the collision happened is still open.
We are thinking of everyone involved as they recover.
Under Massachusetts law, when no traffic signal is operating, drivers must yield to a pedestrian crossing within a marked crosswalk, slowing or stopping if needed. A driver who fails to yield may be found negligent if a pedestrian is injured as a result.
However, the rule has limits. Crosswalks controlled by signals follow those signals, and pedestrians crossing outside a marked crosswalk generally must use reasonable care, so fault can sometimes be shared.
Proving whether a driver yielded typically comes down to evidence that can disappear quickly. Businesses may overwrite video after a short period, witnesses can become hard to reach, and marks on the pavement fade.
A pedestrian accident lawyer in Massachusetts can help identify who may have footage, request that it be kept, and organize statements and photos to show how the accident unfolded and build a strong case.
