School Bus Involved in Crash on Morton St in Dorchester, MA

September 22, 2026

Dorchester, MA (September 22, 2026) – One student aboard a school bus was taken to a hospital after being hurt at the intersection of Morton Street and Wildwood Street.

Emergency units responded to the scene and provided care before the student was taken for treatment. The name of the school associated with the bus had not been confirmed as of this report.

According to the Boston police, six people were on the bus when the collision occurred, though details about the other vehicle involved were not included in the initial report. Authorities said the person injured is expected to recover.

Officials continue to investigate the wreck.

We are thinking of the injured passenger as they continue to recover.

What Are the Rules for Suing a School District After a Bus Accident in Dorchester, MA?

In Massachusetts, claims against a public school district generally fall under the Massachusetts Tort Claims Act, which requires an injured person to send a written notice. This notice is called a presentment letter and it must be sent to the school district within two years of the incident before filing a lawsuit. Missing this notice deadline can prevent a claim from moving forward, regardless of how serious the injuries are.

If the district itself is found responsible, Massachusetts law generally caps damages against public employers at $100,000, a limit that surprises many families who assume compensation will match medical costs. Private companies contracted to operate school buses are not bound by this cap and are typically pursued through standard personal injury procedures instead.

Boston Public Schools and surrounding neighborhoods rely on a mix of publicly and privately operated buses, so identifying which entity is responsible can shape how a claim moves forward.

To understand whether a bus was run by a school district, a municipality, or a private contractor usually requires the careful review of service contracts and records, and a bus accident lawyer can help identify the correct party and meet the applicable notice deadlines.
