After a vehicle crash, insurance may help address medical bills, vehicle damage, lost income, and other expenses. The coverage available can depend on the policies involved and the circumstances of the crash.
Medical treatment is often one of the first expenses to consider. Care may continue after the initial evaluation through follow-up appointments, testing, medication, physical therapy, and other services. Keeping medical bills and treatment records can help document these costs.
Along with medical expenses, damage to a vehicle can create additional financial losses. Repair estimates, towing charges, rental-car costs, and photographs may help establish the property damage connected to the crash.
The effects of an injury may extend beyond these immediate expenses. Missed shifts, reduced hours, or other employment changes can result in lost income. Pay records and employer documentation may help show how the injury affected a person's earnings.
As these losses are documented, insurance companies may request medical records, repair information, statements, and other supporting documents. Keeping copies of correspondence and submitted records can help maintain a clear record throughout the claims process.
Other evidence can also provide useful context when a claim is reviewed. Witness information, photographs, available video, and other records may help preserve details about how the crash occurred.
When questions arise about coverage or potential claims, a car accident lawyer can review the insurance policies, medical expenses, vehicle damage, employment losses, and available crash records to explain what legal options may apply.
