Two Sisters Dead After House Fire on Temi Rd in Bellingham, MA

June 15, 2026

Bellingham, MA (June 15, 2026) – A residential fire claimed the lives of two sisters early Monday morning, June 15.

The Bellingham Fire Department crews responded to Temi Road in a neighborhood off of Route 126 around 12:40 a.m. after several 911 calls from neighbors reporting an active fire.

Firefighters arrived to find the single-family home heavily involved in fire, with smoke and fire coming from the rear of the house and burning through the roof. Two people were still inside the burning building, according to reports at the scene, and rescue teams immediately initiated an aggressive interior search and rescue operation into the intense heat.

Firefighters found the two sisters in the burning building, pulled them out, and turned them over to paramedics. Unfortunately, both victims succumbed to their injuries, despite exhaustive life-saving measures performed at the scene and during transport.

Local authorities have not yet publicly released the identities of the sisters, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office is working closely with the Bellingham Fire Department to investigate the fatal blaze.

Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the two sisters during this difficult time.

What Legal Protections and Liability Rules Apply to Fatal Residential Fires in Massachusetts?

Liability for a fatal residential fire in Massachusetts is determined by establishing whether the property owner's negligence, such as a failure to maintain working smoke detectors, faulty electrical wiring, or blocked fire exits, directly caused the blaze or prevented a safe escape.

Under Massachusetts law and the state sanitary code, landlords and property managers owe a strict duty of care to ensure all residential properties comply with comprehensive fire safety regulations. If a fatal fire occurs because a property owner violated these safety mandates, the surviving family members have the legal right to file a wrongful death lawsuit to seek financial accountability for their profound losses.

Residential structure fires that strike late at night are uniquely dangerous because occupants are typically asleep, leaving them with only seconds to react once a fire breaks out. When structural fire safety systems fail, toxic smoke and heat can rapidly fill the active corridors of a home, causing severe smoke inhalation, thermal burns, and physical disorientation that traps individuals inside.

To build a resilient wrongful death claim following a fatal house fire, the victim's estate must rely on physical evidence from forensic investigators and the State Fire Marshal.

Adjusters will scrutinize the official incident report for the fire's point of origin and the presence of functioning smoke alarms. If pre-existing code violations or deferred maintenance contributed to the catastrophe, the property owner's liability carrier can be held financially responsible for damages, including pre-death pain and suffering.

Legal guidance protects the family’s rights by auditing property maintenance histories and managing all complex communications with insurance representatives. By handling the dense administrative paperwork, a lawyer allows grieving relatives to focus entirely on supporting one another and honoring their family's memory.
