W Springfield, MA (March 17, 2026) – Early Tuesday morning, March 17, a 54-year-old man suffered serious, life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Riverdale Street in West Springfield.

According to West Springfield Sgt. Thomas Burke, emergency crews were dispatched around 6 a.m. following a 911 call reporting the incident near 1305 Riverdale Street. When responders arrived, the pedestrian was found in critical condition and was transported to Baystate Medical Center for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was taken to Mercy Medical Center for evaluation. The driver is reportedly cooperating with investigators.

A section of Riverdale Street was temporarily closed near Ashley Street as police and emergency personnel worked to secure the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The road has since reopened.

No charges have been filed, and the case remains under investigation by the West Springfield Police Department in coordination with the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.

Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian, and we hope for a full recovery.

Should I Seek Medical Attention Even If I Feel Fine After Being Hit in Massachusetts?

After a pedestrian accident, injuries are not always immediately apparent. Even if you feel fine at the scene, conditions such as concussions, internal injuries, whiplash, or soft tissue damage can develop hours or days later. Seeking prompt medical care ensures any injuries are properly diagnosed, treated, and documented.

Medical documentation is also essential if you plan to file an insurance claim or pursue legal action. Keep detailed records of all treatments, test results, and symptoms, including any delayed effects, to support your case.

Notify your insurance company about the accident and any new symptoms, but avoid speculating about fault or the severity of your injuries. Consulting a Massachusetts personal injury attorney can help protect your rights, guide you through insurance communications, and ensure that all evidence is preserved.

Even seemingly minor injuries can become serious without proper care, so early evaluation is the safest choice. By acting promptly, you safeguard your health and preserve your legal options for potential compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
