South Yarmouth, MA (September 1, 2026) – A woman was injured on Saturday afternoon, August 29, after a driver rear-ended her truck twice near Route 28 and then left the scene.
Around 4:30 p.m., a cream-colored Lincoln Navigator struck the back of a green Toyota truck near the Pancake Man restaurant and a CVS on Route 28. The Navigator reportedly fled toward Dennis following the crash.
She was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Additional details about her injuries had not been released.
The Yarmouth Police Department continues to investigate the accident and search for the driver.
We wish the injured woman a full and swift recovery.
Yes. Massachusetts requires all registered vehicles to carry uninsured motorist coverage, which can apply when a driver who caused a wreck cannot be identified, as in a hit-and-run. This coverage allows an injured person to seek compensation through their own insurer instead of waiting for the at-fault driver to be found.
To use uninsured motorist coverage after a hit-and-run, Massachusetts drivers generally need to report the case to their insurer within a set window and show that reasonable efforts were made to identify the other driver.
Physical evidence, such as paint transfer, vehicle damage patterns, and any video from nearby businesses, can help establish that a vehicle that matches the victim’s description was involved. Witness accounts can also strengthen a claim when the driver is never found.
Insurance companies sometimes review hit-and-run claims more closely than other claims, since there is no at-fault driver to point to directly.
A car accident lawyer can help gather and preserve evidence such as security footage, damage estimates, and medical records before they become harder to obtain, and can handle communication with the insurer on the injured person's behalf.
