Afternoon Crash on I-195 Kills Fairhaven Man in Westport, MA

Westport, MA (July 28, 2026) – A Fairhaven man died Monday afternoon, July 27, after a crash on Interstate 195 in Westport, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

Mario Carreiro, 64, was driving a Chevy Silverado that ended up in the tree line with severe damage. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

State police responded around 3:20 p.m. to mile marker 16.2 after receiving multiple calls. A blue Audi was found in the right lane; its driver was not hurt and stayed at the scene. A third vehicle, a green BMW, had left before police arrived.

Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Carreiro's death.
