Mission Hill, MA (July 10, 2026) – A 36-year-old cyclist died on Thursday morning, July 9, after a collision with a pickup truck on Tremont Street near Roxbury Crossing.
The wreck happened around 8:20 a.m. as the cyclist rode through the Mission Hill neighborhood. The truck driver stopped after striking her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as Louisa Gag, a city transportation planner known for her work on bicycle safety. She had worked for the City of Boston since 2022 and previously held roles with a local nonprofit focused on street safety, according to public statements from city officials.
Tremont Street was closed between Brigham Circle and Roxbury Crossing after the crash and reopened to traffic around noon. The driver has not been publicly identified.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said its review of the crash is ongoing and will be handled carefully.
We extend our deepest condolences to Gag's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
How Wrongful Death Claims Work After a Fatal Bicycle Crash in Mission Hill, MA
When a cyclist is killed in a collision with a motor vehicle, Massachusetts law allows certain family members to pursue a wrongful death claim against the responsible driver.
Families who lose a loved one this way usually face funeral and burial costs, lost future income, and the loss of guidance, companionship, and support the person would have provided. Massachusetts also permits a separate survival action, which allows a deceased person's estate to recover for pain and suffering experienced between the crash and death, when applicable.
Massachusetts follows a modified comparative negligence standard, meaning a driver's liability can be reduced or eliminated if the cyclist is found partly at fault, so early evidence gathering, including traffic camera footage, roadway markings, and witness accounts, often shapes how a claim proceeds.
This is frequently where a Massachusetts bicycle accident lawyer becomes involved, helping a family understand filing deadlines, request records from the ongoing review, and identify all applicable insurance coverage, including any commercial policy tied to the truck involved.
