How Accident Reconstruction Helps Explain a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Harwich, MA

Accident reconstruction is the process investigators use to piece together how a crash unfolded when the full sequence of events isn't immediately clear. Specialists typically examine physical evidence such as skid marks, vehicle damage patterns, and final resting positions, along with roadway features.

In a multi-vehicle crash, reconstruction can help determine the order in which vehicles collided, their approximate speeds, and whether road conditions or driver actions contributed to what happened. This matters for injured people because Massachusetts follows a no-fault insurance system, which means PIP coverage applies first regardless of fault, but a reconstruction can still play a role if someone later pursues a claim against another driver for injuries that exceed PIP limits.

Reconstruction findings frequently rely on data pulled from a vehicle's event data recorder, dashcam, or nearby surveillance footage, and witness statements gathered soon after the crash, before memories fade or evidence is lost. Because this information can be difficult to access or interpret without experience, a Massachusetts car accident lawyer can coordinate with reconstruction specialists to request and preserve records early, then use those findings to support a claim once the full extent of injuries becomes clear.

Understanding how a crash happened can shape the outcome of a claim just as much as understanding the injuries themselves. At Fiorentino Legal, P.C., we work with clients to gather and interpret this kind of evidence to build a strong claim.
