Canton, MA — Two Hospitalized After Multi-Truck Crash and Fertilizer Spill on I-95
Canton, MA (May 1, 2026) — A complex multi-vehicle accident involving two commercial trucks and a passenger car created a massive debris field and sent two people to the hospital early Friday morning, April 30. The collision occurred just before 6:30 a.m. on Interstate 95 Northbound near Exit 25.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, the impact between the three vehicles resulted in one of the commercial trucks spilling a large load of fertilizer across the roadway.
Both occupants of the passenger vehicle sustained injuries and were transported by emergency personnel to Boston Medical Center. The severity of their injuries has not been officially confirmed.
The State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section is assisting in determining the cause of the wreck.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a full recovery.
How Can an Attorney Help After a Commercial Truck Accident in Massachusetts?
When commercial trucks are involved in a collision, the legal battle often begins within hours. An attorney ensures that a passenger vehicle's occupants are not overwhelmed by the vast resources of trucking corporations and their insurance investigators.
Preserving Critical "Black Box" and Digital Evidence
Modern commercial trucks are equipped with Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) and Event Data Recorders (EDRs). These devices track speed, braking patterns, and how many hours the driver had been behind the wheel before the crash. This data is often overwritten within days or weeks. An attorney immediately issues a spoliation letter to the trucking companies, legally requiring them to preserve this data, which is often the "smoking gun" needed to prove driver fatigue or mechanical negligence.
Identifying All Liable Parties in the "Chain of Responsibility"
In a complex crash involving two trucks, liability may extend far beyond the drivers. A lawyer investigates the entire chain of responsibility, including:
- The Motor Carrier: For negligent hiring or training.
- The Loading Facility: If the load was improperly secured, causing the truck to become unstable.
- Maintenance Contractors: If a mechanical failure, such as brake fade, contributed to the impact.
Identifying multiple defendants is often necessary to ensure there is enough insurance coverage to pay for serious injuries that require treatment.
Navigating the "No-Fault" and Tort Threshold Maze
Massachusetts insurance laws are notoriously difficult to navigate. An attorney manages your Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claim to ensure your initial medical bills are paid, but they also work to prove your case meets the "tort threshold." Because injuries from truck accidents are often severe, a lawyer documents the medical evidence needed to show your injuries are permanent or exceed the $2,000 medical expense limit, allowing you to sue for "pain and suffering" damages that PIP does not cover.
