How Insurance Coverage Works After a Multi-Car Accident in Massachusetts

Insurance coverage after a multi-car accident in Massachusetts often starts with personal injury protection (PIP) benefits. This system allows drivers and passengers to seek initial coverage from their own insurance, regardless of who caused the crash.

Multi-vehicle collisions can involve several drivers, which can make determining responsibility more complex. In these situations, insurance companies may review police reports, witness statements, and vehicle damage to understand how the accident unfolded. This process can take time, especially when multiple claims are involved.

People injured in these crashes may face a range of injuries, including neck pain, back injuries, and fractures. Some injuries may require ongoing treatment or rehabilitation. Keeping records of medical visits, expenses, and missed work can help show how the accident affected daily life.

If injuries meet certain legal thresholds, a person may be eligible to pursue compensation beyond PIP benefits. This may include claims related to pain, long-term treatment, or other losses tied to the crash. Each situation depends on the severity of injuries and the available insurance coverage.

A car accident lawyer can help review insurance policies and explain how coverage applies in a multi-car collision. Legal guidance can also help clarify what documentation may be useful and what steps may come next in the process.
