Westfield, MA (April 17, 2026) – A late-night crash in Westfield left two people seriously injured after a vehicle struck a utility pole. The accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, along Western Avenue.

The Westfield Police reported that a car traveled off the roadway for unknown reasons and hit a utility pole. The impact caused significant damage and led to power outages in the surrounding area.

Emergency units responded to the scene and assisted both occupants of the vehicle. A 51-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Paramedics transported both individuals to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials stated that both are expected to recover from their injuries.

The collision caused damage to local power lines, which disrupted service overnight. Utility crews responded but delayed repairs until Thursday morning due to severe weather conditions.

Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a full recovery.

Can Passengers Seek Compensation After a Crash in Massachusetts?

Passengers can seek compensation after a crash in Massachusetts if they suffer injuries. In most cases, passengers have the right to file a claim because they are rarely considered at fault for the accident.

Massachusetts follows a no-fault insurance system, which means injured passengers often begin by using personal injury protection (PIP) benefits. These benefits can help cover medical bills and a portion of lost wages, regardless of who caused the collision. If injuries meet certain legal thresholds, passengers may also explore claims beyond basic coverage.

Passengers can face many types of injuries, including head trauma, fractures, and back pain. Some injuries may require ongoing treatment or follow-up care. Medical records and consistent treatment help document how the crash affected a person’s health and daily routine.

In some situations, a passenger may have the option to file a claim against one or more drivers involved in the accident. This can depend on how the crash occurred and the extent of the injuries. Keeping records, including medical visits and expenses, can help support these claims.

A car accident lawyer can explain how Massachusetts law applies to passenger injury cases. Legal guidance can help clarify what compensation may be available and how insurance policies factor into the process.
