Driver Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on I-290 in Northborough, MA

July 15, 2026

Northborough, MA (July 15, 2026) – A driver was hurt late Tuesday night, July 14, in a wrong-way wreck on Interstate 290 in Northborough, Massachusetts. Massachusetts State Police said multiple 911 callers reported a wrong-way driver heading west on Interstate 290 around 10:20 p.m.

Two other drivers swerved to avoid the wrong-way vehicle and struck a guard rail, police said. Both vehicles were towed away following the collision.

The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The wrong-way driver could not be located during an initial search, according to police.

The investigation into this wreck remains active.

We hope the driver recovers fully and quickly.

How Wrong-Way Driving Cases Are Handled in Northborough, MA

Massachusetts law treats wrong-way driving on highways as a serious form of negligence, and a driver who causes harm while traveling against traffic can be held liable for the resulting damage.

Massachusetts follows a no-fault insurance system, in which a driver's own personal injury protection (PIP) coverage typically pays initial medical bills up to a set limit, regardless of who caused the crash. When injuries are serious enough to meet the state's threshold, a driver can file a claim directly against the at-fault party's insurance for costs that exceed PIP coverage. Because Massachusetts also applies a comparative negligence rule, how fault is divided among drivers can affect the outcome of a claim.

Preserving evidence quickly can make a real difference in cases like this one. Photos of vehicle damage, contact information for witnesses, and any available dashcam or surveillance footage can help establish what happened. Medical records documenting treatment, along with repair estimates and the official police report, are also useful for supporting a claim.

Drivers and passengers hurt in these cases can deal with whiplash, broken bones, or head injuries, depending on how the vehicles made contact. Vehicles involved can also be damaged badly enough to require lengthy repairs or full replacement. Even injuries considered non-life-threatening can mean follow-up doctor visits, physical therapy, and missed time at work.

A Massachusetts car accident lawyer can help victims hurt in a wrong-way driving case gather this kind of documentation and organize it to support a claim. An attorney can explain what types of compensation may be available, including for medical bills or lost wages.
