Driver Leaves Lane, Strikes Vehicle on West Main St in North Adams, MA
North Adams, MA (July 15, 2026) – One person was hurt after a car left its lane and struck another vehicle on West Main Street, flipping it onto its side and knocking down a utility pole. Authorities said the accident happened on Tuesday afternoon, July 14.
The North Adams Fire Department, North Adams Police Department and Northern Berkshire EMS responded to the scene. Officials said a vehicle traveling west drifted out of its lane and struck the driver's side of an eastbound car.
The collision caused the eastbound vehicle to roll onto its side. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were towed after emergency units cleared the road.
Traffic was diverted at Brown Street and Roberts Drive while crews worked to clear the wreck and repair the downed pole.
Authorities continue to investigate the full sequence of events that led to the collision.
We hope the injured driver has a smooth and steady recovery.
How Comparative Negligence Rules Apply in North Adams, MA
Massachusetts follows a modified comparative negligence rule, which means a person can still recover damages after a crash even if they were partly responsible, as long as their share of fault is 51% or less. If fault is found to be greater than that, recovery is barred entirely. Any compensation awarded is reduced by the injured person's percentage of fault.
Establishing fault matters because injuries from lane-departure crashes can be serious. People involved usually deal with whiplash, broken bones, or head injuries, especially when a vehicle rolls onto its side. Property such as utility poles or guard rails can also be damaged, adding to the overall cost of the crash.
Because comparative negligence can directly affect how much a person recovers, having documentation and legal support matters. A Massachusetts car accident lawyer can help gather police reports, witness statements, and photos to show how the crash happened and who was responsible.
