E-Bike, Pickup Truck Collide on Sea View Ave in Oak Bluffs, MA

July 10, 2026

Oak Bluffs, MA (July 10, 2026) – A father and his six-year-old son were seriously injured Thursday night, July 9, when the electric bike they were riding together collided with a pickup truck on Sea View Avenue.

Emergency units were sent to the entrance of a restaurant parking lot near Sea View Avenue around 8 p.m. Dispatchers told units en route that CPR was already being performed on the child, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Arriving units found the father and son seriously injured on a shared-use path that runs alongside Sea View Avenue. An off-duty nurse and nearby bystanders had already begun lifesaving efforts before emergency units took over.

The 38-year-old father and his son were first taken to a hospital on Martha's Vineyard before being flown to a trauma center in Boston. Investigators said the injuries appeared life-threatening.

The investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the father and son as they continue their recovery.

Can a Child File a Personal Injury Claim in Oak Bluffs, MA?

Under Massachusetts law, a minor cannot file a personal injury claim on their own. A parent or legal guardian must file on the child's behalf, and any settlement that involves a minor typically requires court approval to make sure the funds are protected until the child turns 18.

Children involved in a serious roadway injury can face broken bones, head trauma, or internal injuries that require extended hospital stays and ongoing care. Some effects, including developmental or cognitive changes, may not be fully clear until months after the initial treatment, which is why continued medical follow-up matters for young patients.

A personal injury attorney can guide parents through the steps of filing on a child's behalf, including gathering medical records, dispatch information, and reconstruction findings.

Massachusetts law also allows the statute of limitations to pause until a minor turns 18 in most cases, though a parent may still choose to pursue a claim sooner. An attorney can explain what types of compensation may be available and how a settlement involving a child is typically structured.
