Haverhill, MA (March 26, 2026) –
On Tuesday evening, March 24, at approximately 7:36 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the area of 280 Lincoln Avenue following reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
According to initial reports, a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and thrown approximately 20 to 30 feet upon impact. When authorities arrived, they located the victim lying in the roadway while bystanders assisted. First responders quickly initiated emergency medical care at the scene.
The injured pedestrian was transported by PrideStar EMS to Lawrence General Hospital
for initial treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later airlifted by Boston MedFlight to Boston Medical Center for further care. Emergency crews cleared the scene around 8:00 p.m., and the current condition of the victim has not been released.
The vehicle involved was described as a red pickup truck operated by an elderly male, who remained at the scene and cooperated fully with responding officers. Authorities temporarily shut down Lincoln Avenue between Groveland Street and Burnham Street to allow emergency crews to safely manage the situation and provide aid.
No charges have been announced at this time, and the incident remains under active investigation. Traffic in the surrounding area was impacted while crews worked to secure the scene and assist the victim. We extend our thoughts to the injured pedestrian and hope for a full and swift recovery.
What Are Non-Economic Damages in a Fatal Accident Case in Massachusetts?
In Massachusetts, non-economic damages refer to the intangible losses suffered by surviving family members after a fatal accident. Unlike economic damages, which cover measurable financial losses such as medical bills, funeral expenses, and lost income, non-economic damages address the emotional and personal impact of losing a loved one. These damages are an essential component of wrongful death claims, as they recognize the profound human cost that cannot be calculated through receipts or financial records alone.
Non-economic damages may include compensation for the loss of companionship, care, guidance, and emotional support that the deceased provided to their family. For spouses, this often involves the loss of marital partnership and shared life experiences. For children, it may include the loss of parental guidance, nurturing, and stability. These damages aim to acknowledge the lasting emotional suffering that follows a tragic and unexpected loss.
Courts in Massachusetts consider several factors when determining the value of non-economic damages. These may include the nature of the relationship between the deceased and surviving family members, the role the individual played within the household, and the overall impact of the loss on the family’s daily life. While there is no fixed formula for calculating these damages, they are carefully evaluated to ensure that families receive fair recognition of their loss.
Because non-economic damages are subjective, presenting a strong and well-documented claim is critical. Testimony from family members, friends, and mental health professionals can help illustrate the depth of the emotional impact. Legal representation can also play a key role in ensuring that these damages are properly pursued and that the full extent of the loss is communicated effectively throughout the claims process.
