Who Pays for Medical Bills After a Crash in Auburn, MA?

Massachusetts requires drivers to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage, which typically pays for medical bills after a crash regardless of who caused it, up to policy limits. This no-fault system means an injured motorcyclist or driver may first look to their own PIP coverage before pursuing a separate claim against the other party.

Injuries from a car-versus-motorcycle wreck can be extensive, and it can range from road rash and fractures to more serious head trauma, and treatment costs can add up quickly. Once PIP coverage is exhausted, medical bills may need to be covered through health insurance, out-of-pocket payment, or a claim against the at-fault driver's liability policy.

Sorting out which coverage applies and in what order can get complicated, especially when injuries require ongoing treatment beyond what PIP covers. A Massachusetts motorcycle accident lawyer can help determine whether pursuing the at-fault driver's insurance makes sense once no-fault benefits run out, and can assist in negotiating with insurers who dispute the extent of medical treatment.
