What Should I Do If I Was Involved in a Car Crash in Massachusetts?

If you’re involved in a car crash in Massachusetts, the first step is to make sure everyone is safe. Check for injuries and call 911 if medical assistance or police are needed. If the vehicles can be moved safely, clearing the roadway may help prevent additional accidents.

Once emergency responders arrive, follow their instructions and provide accurate information about what happened. In many cases, a police report will be created, which can be important for insurance purposes.

Seeking medical attention is important, even if you don’t feel seriously injured right away. Some symptoms can appear later, and early evaluation can help identify and document any injuries.

If you are able, gather information at the scene. This may include taking photos of vehicle damage, the surrounding area, and road conditions. Exchange contact and insurance details with the other driver, and try to get contact information from any witnesses.

In Massachusetts, you may also be required to file a crash report if there is injury or significant property damage. Notifying your insurance company promptly is another key step, as they will guide you through the claims process.

Additionally, keeping records such as medical visits, repair estimates, and communication with insurers can help you stay organized as things move forward.

Having legal guidance helps ensure that all paperwork is filed correctly and on time. That is why consulting with a lawyer familiar with Massachusetts law can provide clarity and peace of mind. Understanding your rights and options early on can make a significant difference in the outcome of your case and your overall recovery.
