and emergency units responded to the area of 727 Hartford Turnpike, also known as Route 20, after a 911 call came in at approximately 1:57 p.m.
The crash involved a Hyundai Elantra and a Mercedes SUV. The driver of the Hyundai was taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. The driver of the Mercedes suffered minor injuries and was also transported for treatment.
Emergency units arrived quickly and secured the scene. Hartford Turnpike was closed for several hours between South Street and Centech Boulevard, with traffic diverted around the area. The closure remained in effect while investigators worked at the scene.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim lost in this tragic crash.
How the Statute of Limitations Works After a Fatal Crash in Massachusetts
In Massachusetts, families who lose a loved one in a fatal car accident generally have three years from the date of the crash to file a wrongful death claim. Missing this deadline typically means losing the right to seek compensation entirely, no matter how clear the circumstances of the collision may be. Acting within this window is one of the most important steps a family can take after a tragic loss.
The statute of limitations for wrongful death claims in Massachusetts falls under the state's wrongful death statute. The three-year clock generally starts on the date of the fatal crash. However, certain circumstances can affect exactly when that clock begins, which is why speaking with a car accident lawyer
early in the process can help clarify the specific deadline that applies to a given situation.
Wrongful death claims in Massachusetts can seek compensation for a range of losses. These include funeral and burial expenses, lost financial support the deceased would have provided, and the loss of care and companionship the family no longer receives. Courts evaluate these claims based on the deceased person's age, health, earning history, and relationship with surviving family members.
Evidence becomes harder to gather as time passes after a fatal crash. Witness memories fade, surveillance footage gets deleted, and physical evidence at the scene disappears. Starting the legal process early gives attorneys the best opportunity to collect and preserve the documentation needed to support a claim effectively.
