Structure Fire Displaces Four, Sends One to Hospital on Quincy St in Springfield, MA

June 24, 2026

Springfield, MA (June 24, 2026) – On Wednesday morning, June 24, a structure fire on 83 Quincy Street in Springfield forced four people to flee their homes and sent one person to the hospital.

Firefighters arrived to find fire coming from the second floor of the home. One person was rescued after being overcome by smoke and was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Four people were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Officials determined the cause of the fire originated inside the home.

We hope the person hurt makes a full and smooth recovery, and we extend our sympathies to all those displaced by this difficult experience.

What Legal Options Do Fire Victims Have in Springfield, MA?

When a residential fire results in injuries and displacement, victims may have meaningful legal options under Massachusetts law depending on what investigators ultimately determine caused the blaze.

Residential fires can originate from a wide range of sources, including faulty wiring, defective appliances, or improper maintenance, and identifying the specific cause is an important step in determining whether a product liability claim against a manufacturer or a negligence claim against a landlord or property manager may be appropriate. If the home was a rental unit, questions about whether the property was properly maintained and whether required safety equipment, such as smoke detectors, was functioning at the time of the fire can also be relevant.

Smoke inhalation injuries, like the one sustained by the person rescued from this fire, can cause both immediate respiratory distress and longer-term health complications that require ongoing medical monitoring. Even when initial injuries are described as non-life-threatening, smoke inhalation can affect lung function and overall respiratory health in ways that may not be fully apparent until weeks or months after the incident.

Seeking a thorough medical evaluation and following through with any recommended pulmonary or respiratory follow-up care is important for both proper recovery and for documenting the connection between smoke exposure and any resulting health effects.

For the four people displaced by this fire, the financial burden of temporary housing, lost personal property, and other displacement-related costs can add up quickly, particularly if the fire resulted from a preventable cause that a property owner or another party should have addressed.

A burn injury lawyer may be able to help fire victims investigate the cause of the fire, identify all potentially responsible parties, and determine what compensation may be available for medical expenses, displacement costs, and property losses, depending on the specific findings of the investigation.
