Two Hospitalized After Fire Spreads Through 3 Buildings in Lawrence, MA

July 14, 2026

Lawrence, MA (July 14, 2026) – Two people were taken to the hospital for evaluation on Sunday, July 12, after a fire tore through three occupied buildings in Lawrence.

The fire broke out around 12:45 p.m. near Haverhill Street and Margin Street, prompting more than 20 outside departments to help bring it under control. Heavy smoke was visible for hours as crews worked to contain the flames across all three structures.

One person was rescued from a third-floor window and taken to the hospital. Their condition was not immediately known. No serious injuries were reported among those evaluated.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released. Lawrence Police continue to look into what started it.

We hope everyone affected recovers fully.

Who Is Responsible When a Fire Spreads Across Multiple Buildings in Lawrence, MA?

Responsibility for a fire that spreads between occupied buildings can fall on several parties depending on where it started, including a property owner, a management company, or, in some cases, a utility provider if faulty equipment was involved.

Lawrence's older residential blocks near Haverhill Street and the Arlington neighborhood include many closely spaced multi-family buildings, a layout that can make fires especially difficult to contain once they start.

People displaced or hurt in a multi-building fire can face more than physical injuries. Smoke inhalation can cause lasting respiratory issues, and residents may also lose personal belongings or face weeks without stable housing while repairs take place.

Massachusetts law holds property owners to a duty of reasonable care, including maintaining working smoke detectors, proper electrical systems, and safe common areas, especially in multi-unit buildings where a failure in one unit can endanger others.

Once the fire's origin is determined, a Massachusetts personal injury lawyer can help residents understand whether a property owner's negligence, faulty wiring, or another cause contributed, and can assist in gathering documentation like lease agreements or prior maintenance complaints before that evidence becomes harder to obtain.
