How Is Liability Investigated After a Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash in Dartmouth, MA?
After a fatal two-vehicle crash in Massachusetts, investigators carefully examine the available evidence to determine how the collision occurred and whether any party may bear legal responsibility. A wrongful death lawyer can explain how liability is evaluated and how the findings of the official investigation may affect insurance claims or potential wrongful death actions.
Authorities may examine the official crash report, vehicle damage, photographs from the scene, witness statements, road conditions, and any available dash camera or surveillance footage as the investigation moves forward. In order to piece together the events, investigators may also examine impact locations, debris patterns, vehicle speeds, and other tangible evidence. These results can shed light on how the collision happened and whether any traffic laws or other factors played a role.
Important documentation may also need to be preserved for families impacted by a fatal accident. During insurance reviews or wrongful death claims, financial records, medical records made before the victim's death, funeral and burial costs, and other evidence about the losses experienced by surviving family members may be pertinent. Maintaining well-organized records can aid in the assessment of damages during the court proceedings.
As questions about responsibility, coverage, and recovery arise, having the available information properly reviewed can help clarify the claims process. An attorney may assist with evaluating investigation reports, organizing relevant documentation, and explaining how Massachusetts law may apply based on the circumstances of the incident.
